The work

See the kind of website we build.

Five sample websites, each built for a different kind of practice, so you can look at real work instead of taking our word for it. Open any of them and click anything — every page is written and every link goes somewhere.

They are not five templates to choose from. Your firm’s site would be designed around your firm, your clients and what you want it to say.

Doe & Roe Family Law

Family law and divorce · Brooklyn, Pretoria · 8 pages

A family law website organised by what has happened, not by service.

Somebody whose marriage is ending does not know whether they need a divorce, a mediator or a maintenance application, and they are usually reading at eleven at night. The site opens on situations instead of services — papers have arrived, the maintenance has stopped, you cannot see your children — so the reader starts from where they actually are and the firm gets a better first call.

Whiteacre Property Law

Conveyancing · Hatfield, Pretoria · 7 pages

A conveyancing website built around the transfer itself.

The commonest call a conveyancer takes is a buyer asking where the transfer is, and the answer is almost always the same and almost never bad news. The home page carries a live file showing the property, which of the eight stages it has reached, who the firm is waiting on and how many working days it has been, so the client can see it without telephoning.

Volenti Attorneys

Personal injury and RAF · Sunnyside, Pretoria · 7 pages

A personal injury website built to be telephoned.

Somebody who has been injured is in pain, short of time and reading on a phone, and if they have to find a contact page some of them give up. The telephone number stays on the screen the whole way down every page and dials when it is touched. The eight stages of a claim are published with who controls each one, including the ones the firm cannot hurry.

Hadley & Baxendale Inc

Commercial · Rosebank, Johannesburg · 6 pages

A commercial website sorted by the client’s industry.

A managing director with a supply problem is deciding whether the firm understands their trade, and a list of departments does not tell them. The work is arranged by industry — manufacturing, agriculture, retail, professional services, technology — with the matters that actually arise in each, so a reader finds their own business in about two seconds.

Audi Alteram Labour Law

Labour · Gardens, Cape Town · 7 pages

A labour website that answers both sides on the same page.

A firm acting for employers and for employees has two readers with opposite interests arriving at the same page, each deciding whether it was written for the other one. Every question is answered twice, side by side and at the same length, and the two fee schedules are printed next to each other so neither is the small print.

About these five

Why we made the firms up.

Doe & Roe, Whiteacre, Volenti, Hadley & Baxendale and Audi Alteram are not real practices. The names come out of a law textbook, and every page of every one of these sites says at the top that it is a sample.

We invented them so that we could build the whole thing. A real client’s half-finished site, or a page of screenshots, would not let you check anything. These you can open, click through, submit the forms on, and read end to end.

The work in them is the real work: 35 pages written, designed, photographed and built, each scoring 100 out of 100 for accessibility in Google’s own test. That is the standard your site would be built to — but built around your firm, not copied from one of these.

Want to know what yours would look like?

Send us your firm’s web address. We go through it against a written list of 69 checks and email you the six problems worth fixing first, each in one sentence, with what we measured. It costs nothing and there is no follow-up call.
