What it costs
Nothing now.
Nothing if we lose.
Our fee comes out of what the Fund pays you at the end, and the law caps it at a quarter. Everything below is what that actually means in rands.
The part nobody shows you
What actually reaches your account.
On a settlement of one point two million rand. Real numbers turn on the injury and on what the Fund concedes, and you get yours in writing before you sign anything.
What the Fund agrees to pay
R1,200,000
Our fee. A quarter, VAT included
− R300,000
The specialists and the actuary
− R64,000
Costs we recover from the Fund
+ R58,000
Into your account
R894,000
Illustrative figures on a demonstration site. The quarter is real law; the settlement is invented.
How the fee works
Four things that are true of every file here.
Nothing now
No consultation fee. No fee to open the file. Nothing to lodge. If a firm asks you for money to start an RAF claim, leave.
Nothing if we lose
If the claim fails you owe us no fee. We carry the reports and the disbursements and we carry the loss.
The cap is the law, not a favour
A quarter of what you are awarded, VAT included, or double the normal fee, whichever is lower. Nobody may lawfully charge you more than that.
In writing, before anything starts
A contingency agreement has to be signed before the work begins, and you get a copy. If you never signed one, ask the firm you are with why.
Ask this of anybody
Three questions before you sign with any firm.
01
What percentage, and does that include VAT?
02
If the claim fails, who pays for the reports?
03
May I take the agreement home before I sign it?
A firm that will not answer all three in writing is telling you something. Ask us the same three and hold us to the answers.
