02 — Matters

The evidence, rather than the claim.

Everything else on this site is something we say about ourselves. This is a list of work actually done, anonymised, with values where the client has agreed to them.

A large columnar ledger lying open flat on a dark timber desk, photographed from directly overhead, its cream pages ruled in faded red and blue and entirely unwritten, with a dark fountain pen lying across the lower right.
Plate IThe page before anything is entered on it. Everything below is what went into ours between 2023 and 2026, with the names taken out and the values left in where the client agreed.

2026

Manufacturing

Acted for a Gauteng component manufacturer on a three-year supply agreement with a listed automotive customer, including the liability cap the customer had never previously conceded.

R240m

Professional services

Restructured the shareholding of a six-partner engineering practice, including a buy-sell mechanism funded by policy, after one partner gave notice.

Confidential

Technology

Rewrote the enterprise terms of a payments business after a bank procurement review returned eleven pages of objections. Nine were conceded on our first response.

Confidential

2025

Retail and franchising

Defended a franchisee against cancellation of a franchise agreement in the High Court; settled on terms permitting an orderly sale of the outlet.

R18m

Technology

Advised a software business on its Series A, including the IP assignment position left over from three years of contractor development.

R65m

Retail and franchising

Recovered arrear rental and rates from a national tenant across four retail centres, without terminating a lease the landlord wanted to keep.

R9.4m

Agriculture

Acted on the sale of a Free State grain farm held in a family trust, including the separate treatment of the water use entitlement the buyer had not asked about.

R41m

2024

Agriculture

Negotiated a ten-year offtake agreement for a citrus producer, including the force majeure clause that was tested two seasons later.

Confidential

Manufacturing

Defended an uncapped consequential loss claim brought by a customer under terms signed before we were instructed. Settled at under four per cent of the amount claimed.

R2.1m claim

Professional services

Enforced a restraint of trade against a departing director who had taken two clients and a price list. Interdict granted within eleven days.

Confidential

On this list

Three things worth saying about it.

Why they are anonymised

They are our clients’ matters, not ours. A commercial client does not want its supply terms, its shareholder fight or its claim discussed on an attorney’s website, and a firm that would publish yours will publish theirs.

Why the values are there

Because "acted on a significant transaction" means nothing. Where a client has agreed we give the figure; where they have not we say confidential rather than invent a range.

What is not on this list

The matters we lost, the ones that settled badly, and the ones where we were replaced. Ask us about those on the call. We will answer.

Ask us for a reference.

We will put you on the telephone to a client in your sector who has been through something close to what you are facing.
